Crow Creek, SD (PRWEB) February 4, 2009 -- CAN-DO is proud to announce the launch of the Crow Creek Revitalization Effort (www.can-do.org) to unite Americans across the country to address these critical issues at home. Having coordinated large-scale humanitarian aid and emergency relief projects globally, from the South Asian tsunami to Hurricane Katrina, from the American floods in Iowa to the African floods in Rwanda, CAN-DO is an award-winning organization dedicated to working on the local level to provide lasting solutions, with full accountability, efficiency, and results.
The organization declared the crisis at the Crow Creek Reservation as its most critical program which includes comprehensive programs to support the development of alternative energies, entrepreneurial development programs, a community store, greenhouse initiatives, children's center and educational development programs, and a veteran's memorial. CAN-DO's most immediate concern is getting the electric companies to cease all winter power disconnects.
"I've been to disaster areas (www.can-do.org) around the world including Sri Lanka after the tsunami, hurricane Katrina, and after the Iowa floods, but, I have never witnessed such blatant disregard for human life as I have here in my own country on the Crow Creek reservation. If the American people knew how bad the abuse really is, they would be outraged," stated Eric Klein, Founder and CEO of CAN-DO. "Especially now, with our administration paving the way, we need to focus our energies and resources here in our own country and start taking care of our own."
Appalled by the abuse and neglect, one US Marine and Crow Creek Reservation community member took action to publicize the exploitation. Using a hand-held video recorder, he documented local power companies physically cutting electricity lines and removing meters in the peak of winter.
With their proven approach to providing lasting solutions with full accountability, efficiency and results, CAN-DO addresses the operation at the Crow Creek Reservation on a local level to raise the nation's awareness of the urgent human right abuses taking place in the South Dakota region. As it is crucial that the immediate survival needs of the community are met, CAN-DO will simultaneously introduce relevant, long-term solutions for sustainability, economic growth and cultural preservation through the comprehensive relief plan.
On January 8th, 2008, President Barack Obama stated, "I will never forget that the only reason I am standing here today is that somebody somewhere stood up for me when it was risky."
Recognizing the ongoing plight endured by America's indigenous citizens, CAN-DO has shifted efforts, previously devoted to emergency and disaster relief worldwide, to focus explicitly on social grievances and catastrophes that prevail in the heart of the United States. Klein sees this as an opportunity to promote the new administration's philosophy of social change and responsibility by using this initiative as a starting point to create a national movement.
"We are calling for a collaborative effort by ethical individuals, organizations, schools and political leaders to assure that this damage is reversed," said Klein. "Together, we can contribute to real change."
